Instagram launches new 'Checkout' feature

It seems that every day social media is changing to integrate itself more into our daily lives and today is no different. 

This week, Instagram began a small test with 20 brands in the United States to overhaul the way business sell to consumers. ‘Checkout with Instagram’ integrates a businesses store into the Instagram app so consumers can add products to their basket and pay without having to leave Instagram. Some of the brands participating in this test include Adidas, Warby Parker & teen favourite Kylie Cosmetics.

Instagram: Booking Feature for Businesses

In March this year, when Instagram revealed that they reached 1 million advertisers, the social media platform also briefly shared plans that they going to be bringing a booking feature to the app. Instagram users will soon be able to book appointments using the photo sharing app. Bloomberg has reported that Salon appointments and restaurant table bookings could be set up by clicking on the business’ Instagram profile and using the new feature.

It has been four months since the launch of Instagram Stories in August 2016, which sent the internet into a huge hysteria and speculation over the future of Snapchat. To everyone who is on social media, the latest update of Instagram seemed eerily similar to the social networking app Snapchat with 30 million monthly active users.
